Fly there – Latin America

New routes to Latin America are opening all the time. Here’s a guide to the easiest ways to get there from the UK.

Antarctica

Options include charters from Punta Arenas, Chile or Cape Town. Operators include White Desert. Most arrive by ship.

Argentina

British Airways flies to Buenos Aires from Heathrow and Norwegian Airlines from London Gatwick. Airlines flying from Madrid include Aerolíneas Argentinas, Air Europa and Iberia.

Belize

Airlines flying to Belize City via the US include American Airlines from Miami, United Airlines from Houston and Delta Air Lines from Atlanta.

Bolivia

Options include flying to Lima, Peru with British Airways and catching an onwards flight to La Paz with Avianca or LATAM Airlines.

Brazil 

British Airways flies from Heathrow to Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, while LATAM flies nonstop to São Paulo from Heathrow (and Munich and Lisbon from September). TAP Air Portugal’s Brazil network from Lisbon includes Brasilia and Recife; Air Europa flies from Gatwick via Madrid to key cities such as São Paulo and Recife; and Air France and KLM serve Rio via their national hubs of Paris and Amsterdam.

Chile

British Airways flies direct to Santiago from Heathrow. Indirect options from Heathrow include Iberia via Madrid; Air France via Paris; and Avianca via Bogotá, Colombia.

Colombia

National carrier Avianca flies direct to Bogotá from Heathrow and cities including Barcelona, and Munich (from November). Iberia serves Bogotá from Heathrow via Madrid, and Air Europa from Gatwick via Madrid.

Costa Rica

British Airways flies from Gatwick to San José and TUI Airways from Gatwick to Liberia. Other options include Air France via Paris and KLM via Amsterdam.

Cuba

Virgin Atlantic flies direct from Gatwick to Havana and Thomas Cook Airlines from Gatwick to Holguín.

Dominican Republic

British Airways flies Gatwick to Punta Cana, while Thomas Cook Airlines flies there from Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Heathrow. TUI Airways, which also services La Romana and Puerto Plata airports alongside Punta Cana, flies from Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol
and Birmingham.

Dutch Caribbean

TUI Airways has a Gatwick-Aruba service, while KLM services Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao via Amsterdam.

Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands

Options for reaching Quito include Air Europa from Gatwick via Madrid; Avianca from Heathrow via Bogotá, Colombia; and American Airlines from Heathrow via Miami. Flights from Quito to the Galápagos with LATAM touch down briefly in Guayaquil.

El Salvador

Fly from Heathrow to San Salvador with Iberia via Madrid; Aeroméxico via Mexico City; or Avianca via Bogotá.

French Guiana

Fly from Paris to the capital Cayenne with Air Caraïbes.

Guatemala

Heathrow to Guatemala City with Aeroméxico via Mexico City; British Airways via Miami; or Iberia via Madrid.

Guyana

Connect to Georgetown from airports such as New York or Toronto with Caribbean Airlines, or with LIAT from islands such as Barbados and Trinidad.

Haiti

Air Canada serves Port Au Prince from Heathrow via Montréal; Finnair from Gatwick via New York’s JFK; and Spirit Airlines flies from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Honduras

Fly from Heathrow to Tegucigalpa via the US; for example, United Airlines via Houston
or American Airlines
via Miami.

Mexico

Aeroméxico and British Airways fly direct from Heathrow to Mexico City, while Virgin Atlantic, TUI Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines fly nonstop to Cancún from Gatwick.

Nicaragua

October sees Iberia launch a thrice-weekly service from Heathrow to Managua via Madrid.

Panama

British Airways flies to Panama City via Miami or Madrid, while KLM flies via Amsterdam and Air France via Paris.

Paraguay

LATAM Airlines flies to Asunción from Heathrow via São Paulo and Air Europa flies the route from Gatwick
via Madrid.

Peru

British Airways flies direct from Gatwick to Lima. Other options are Avianca via Bogotá and Iberia via Madrid.

St Helena

Airlink launched the island’s first service in late 2017, flying from Johannesburg to Jamestown via Windhoek, Namibia.

Suriname

KLM flies to Paramaribo from Amsterdam, as does Surinam Airways, whose other connections include Guyana, Aruba and Miami.

Falkland Islands/Islas Malvinas

AirTanker operates scheduled flights to the Falklands from RAF Brize Norton, via Ascension Island. LATAM Airlines has a weekly flight to RAF Mount Pleasant from
Santiago, Chile.

Uruguay

Airlines servicing Montevideo include Air Europa and Iberia via Madrid and British Airways/American Airlines from Heathrow via Miami.

Venezuela

TAP Air Portugal flies from Heathrow to Caracas via Lisbon while Iberia and Air Europa fly via Madrid and Air France via Paris.
