(Thursday 13 February) Here are the trends that caught our eye this week:
Where to travel in Spain in 2020
Ibiza is the most expensive popular summer destination in Spain, while Lanzarote and Tenerife guarantee below-average prices. These are the findings of Spain-Holiday.com’s Summer Holiday Prices Report 2020, which compared the rates in 17 Spanish destinations, considering factors such as the price of rentals and eating out. The research comes after the Spanish National Institute of Statistics reported another successful year for the country: Spain welcomed 83.7 million international tourists in 2019 — a rise for the seventh consecutive year.
Dubai surpasses global tourism growth
Dubai attracted an all-time high of 16.73 million international overnight visitors in 2019, as reported by the country’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism). This number represents a 5.1% increase on the previous year, surpassing the global tourism growth forecast by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation by over 1%. Dubai was also ranked the World’s Fourth Most Visited City for the fifth consecutive year by MasterCard’s Global Destination Cities Index 2019.
Kuoni’s trends for 2020
According to the new Kuoni Worldwide Travel Report, the travel specialist has seen an increasing demand for small group escorted touring, with bookings up by 10%. River cruising was also noted as a growth area for the company, with cruises along the Nile up 20%, and the report highlighted a 10% rise in family travel over the past year, too. Finally, the company’s top five destinations for the new year are the Maldives, Mauritius, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Bali.
