(Thursday 30 January) Here are our favourite trends of the week:
Travellers increasingly embracing digital detoxes
According to Black Tomato’s latest Travel Report, travellers are increasingly seeking digital detoxes — especially as nearly 70% of consumers admit to staying connected to work on their holidays. When it comes to switching off, the luxury travel company has seen an appetite for experiences and destinations that help achieve calmness, such as forest bathing and astrotourism.
The 2020 travel trends to experience in Buenos Aires
The Buenos Aires Tourist Board has highlighted a new vegan movement in the city as a noticeable visitor trend, with new vegan-friendly joints catering to a growing number of vegan travellers. The capital’s indigenous traditions and immigrant cultures are also attracting visitors looking for meaningful experiences, such visiting the Centro Cultural Recoleta (a cultural events centre) or taking a tango class. The tourist board suggests visiting Buenos Aires during the British summer — the Argentine capital’s off-peak season — to help combat overtourism.
Lille named food capital of Europe
The European capital for food is Lille, France, according to a report by kitchen retailer Wren Kitchens. A total of 171 cities were ranked according to factors such as the concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants and the cost of eating out. Two other French cities, Lyon and Toulouse, took the second and third slots, respectively. Liverpool is rated the UK’s food capital ranked — although it only placed 104th — followed by Cardiff, ranked 106th.
