(Thursday 22 January) Here are the trends that caught our eye this week:
Where to travel with the family in 2020
Berlin is the number-one city worldwide for family-oriented leisure activities. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by house removals and relocation platform Movinga, which analysed the median ratings of all activities labelled ‘family-friendly’ on Foursquare and ‘kid-friendly’ on Google. Tokyo and Copenhagen ranked second and third, respectively.
Luxury travel trends for the new year
According to Small Luxury Hotels of the World’s 2020 Luxury Travel Trends Report, ‘dispersed hotels’ — spread out across small towns or villages — are on the rise as a new way of experiencing destinations. ‘Upskilling escapes’, which help travellers learn new skills, are increasingly popular, too, and so are indigenous spa practices and sleep programmes. Finally, sustainable getaways and foodie trips remain high on the modern traveller’s agenda.
Growing demand for personalised transportation
In response to the growing problem of congestion in urban areas, consumers are increasingly demanding a range of flexible transport options, as highlighted by Euromonitor’s Top 10 Global Consumer Trends 2020 report. This has, in turn, led to a growth in demand for navigation apps such as Citymapper, Whim and BlueSG.
