Palm Golf Marrakech Ourika: 1st hole

Boasting year-round sunshine, affordable green fees and a beguiling local culture, Morocco is the ideal getaway for a short break with a golf bag. From coastal courses near Agadir and Rabat, to desert-inspired tracks outside Marrakech, don’t miss these top five tracks worth a swing

Palmeraie Resorts
With 27 holes encircling three luxury hotels, Palmeraie delivers an excellent resort-style golf experience, with wide fairways and forgiving greens. Steer clear of the plentiful water hazards, but otherwise it’s an approachable course. The resort also boasts excellent practice facilities. (Pictured above). Green fees from £42.

Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort
Designed by Gary Player, Mazagan — at 7,484 yards — claims the title of Morocco’s longest course. Though links-inspired, the landing zones are wide and the greens manicured, making it an excellent course for the mid-handicap player. Take a moment to admire the 15th, a par-three with an intimidating carry to a well-protected raised green. Green fees £62 per 18 holes.

Assoufid Golf Club
With memorable views of the distant Atlas Mountains, this course by Scottish designer Niall Cameron embraces the desert landscape across a challenging par-72 track. The signature is the memorable 17th, an elevated tee-box demanding a lengthy drive to clear a shaaba (dry stream) and reach the safety of the well-protected green. Green fees from £70 per 18 holes.

Tazegzout Golf
Boasting views out over the Atlantic, Tazegzout Golf on the outskirts of Agadir plays across rolling limestone hills to offer a testing Berber-inspired track. Deep gullies provide plenty of challenge across the course, and the standout holes come towards the end where the par-four 16th and par-three 17th demand nerves of steel to come out on par. Green fees from £66.

The Red, Royal Golf Dar es Salam
A short drive from Rabat, this is the most challenging of three courses built by Morocco’s King Hassan II. Stretching more than 7,300 yards, it meanders between landscaped ponds and majestic stands of cork oaks. The par-three 9th is a breathtaking close to the front-nine, with an island green demanding a lengthy carry. Green fees from £50.
