The trends on the rise this week:
We want eco-friendly holidays
Brits want their holidays to be eco-friendly, according to a survey by Taxi2Airport.com. The study, which surveyed 1,468 Brits who’ve booked a trip abroad this summer, found that 78% of travellers will actively seek to walk, bike or use public transport to explore holiday destinations this summer, while 75% will take reusable bags with them. The report also revealed that holidaymakers believe hotels could do more to be greener: 82% want them to save more energy, 70% wouldn’t mind if toiletries were replaced less frequently and 67% would like to see recycling bins in their rooms.

Brits turn to TV for holiday inspiration
Research commissioned by creative and media agency eight&four suggests that only 7% of British travellers trust social media influencers and bloggers as a source of holiday inspiration. The study, which quizzed 2,000 UK adults, found that TV programmes and films are the main sources of travel ideas are for 25% of Brits, a figure that rises to 31% among millennials (25-35-year-olds) and 29% for Gen Z (18-24-year-olds). The research also highlights the increasing influence of ‘real’ people: Gen Z is driving this trend, the study suggests, with 29% of travellers in this age bracket looking to friends and family for ideas.
New Zealand named best family holiday destination
New Zealand is the best spot for a family getaway, with Spain and Portugal placing second and third respectively, according to Pettitts Travel. The tour operator has created what it calls the 3G Family Travel Index to discover which countries around the world are the top destinations for a multi-generational break. It found that multi-generational holidays are on the rise — nearly 50% of people travelled with their families in 2018.
